Top 20 Nigerian Singles of 2016

2016 has been quite an eventful year yet impressive in the Nigerian music sphere. This year some new cats made it big while some of the old players still held their game tight.

Today, we bring to you the top 20 songs that made our 2016 in no particular order.

1. Koker – Kolewerk


Rapid rising singer, songwriter and all-round performer Koker currently signed on to Chocolate City Music gave Nigerians one of the biggest records of 2016.

Koker’s Kolewerk was produced by the super-talented CBN in-house producer, Reinhard and it definitely has all the boxes checked in being 2016’s Nigerian Club anthem.

2. D’Banj – Ememrgency


After a lot was said about D’Banj’s declining career. the kokomaster proved a lot of people wrong after he performed Emergency at the GLO CAF Awards, 2015 held at Abuja, today Thursday, 7 January 2016.  The performance was a great and enthralling one which really made the event a remarkable one. The KOKO Master decided to release the tune after the performance becoming an instant hit.

3. Kiss Daniel – Mama


After the November 2015 release of “Good Time” which was produced by DJ Coublon, G-Worldwide dream, Kiss Daniel, some camps thought that was all by the young lad until he came back bubbling with this Young John produced track titled “Mama” which topped charts continuously for months.

4. Adekunle Gold – Ready


After his 2015 hit, “Pick Up”, YBNL’s lover boy, Adekunle Gold topped the charts on this Pheelz produced track titled “Ready”.

This love tune by Adekunle Gold has additions strings by Fiokee and was mix and mastered by sultry songstress, Simi.

5. Tekno – WHERE


After topping charts in 2015 with records like Duro and Wash, The Triple MG act, Tekno began 2016 on a high note as he released yet another chart topper titled Where which was produced by favourite collaborator, Selebobo.

6. Simi – Love Don’t Care


Definitely not for the club goers but  Simi’s ‘Love don’t care’, shows us a deeper meaning of the word love – it cares for the next person irrespective of status, religion or ethnicity.

The single was produced by Oscar with additional production (guitar) by Fiokee, mixed and mastered by Simi herself.

After a fantastic run in 2015, Simi didn’t disappoint in 2016.

7. Patoranking – “No Kissing Baby” ft. Sarkodie


Patois singing dance hall act, Patoranking brought fire to the charts this year on this GospelOndBeatz produced record titled No Kissing Baby which featured Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie.

“No Kissing Baby” is a single released off Patoranking’s debut album God Over Everything (GOE)

8. Olamide – Abulè Śowo

No year passes by without Olamide being on the charts. And to celebrate his 27th birthday, Olamide dished out this Pheelz produced record Abulè Śowo which was highly accepted with warm reception.

9. Zoro – OGENE ft. Flavour


ZORO kicked off the year with this much anticipated jam #OGENE which features the king of highlife FLAVOUR N’abania produced by kezyklef & Major Bangz.

The record Ogene turned out being a street anthem topping charts for weeks.

10. HumbleSmith – Osinachi (Remix) ft. Davido


The remix of Humblesmith’s Osinachi which featured HKN’s Davido was really worth the wait. Also, Davido’s beef with Dele Momodu as at then gave the record quite a push.

11. Lil Kesh – Cause Trouble ft. YCEE


After causing trouble in 2015, before the release of his debut album titled Y.A.G.I, Lil Kesh caused more trouble on the charts with this record titled Cause Trouble which has Tinny Entertainment act, Ycee and produced by Pheelz.

No doubt it made it to the countdown.

12. Falz – Bahd Baddo Baddest ft. Olamide & Davido 


“Bahd Baddo Baddest” by Bahd Guy, Falz was definitely one of the lit! records of 2016. The Sess produced star studded record features YBNL’s Boss, Olamide and HKN’s lead act, Davido.

The trio definitely brought light to the charts.

13. 2Baba – Officially Blind


February being a lovers’ month, 2Baba dished out this love record ‘Officially Blind’ produced by Spellz.

2Baba delivered yet another memorable song with his trademark style. The just-over-3-minute track is a fitting tune in the month of love which obviously made it a listener’s favourite.

14. Timaya – M.O.N.E.Y ft. Flavour


Dem Mama Record’s Timaya and 2nite Entertainment’s act, Flavour joined forces on this chart topping record titled M.O.N.E.Y.

The Young D produced tune titled “M.O.N.E.Y” became an instant hit days after it was officially released.

15. Mayorkun – Eleko


Davido bragged alot about his newest signed act, Mayorkun. Some felt Davido was just making the hypes as usual but Mayorkun lived up to the hype on the Puffy Tee produced record titled Eleko.

For an entry into the music scene, Mayorkun’s Eleko did excellently well on the charts.

16. Mr. Eazi – Holl’up


Holl’up has suddenly become the new cliche in town as Nigerian rising star, Mr. Eazi teams up with Ghanaian Star, Joey B and Dammy Krane on this jam titled “Holl’Up” which is produced by Juls.

Holl’up made one of the biggest songs of 2016.

17. Phyno – Fada Fada (Ghetto Gospel) ft. Olamide


On Fada Fada, the Eastern flavour, Phyno teamed up with YBNL’s boss, Olamide on this Ghetto Gospel which is produced by the amazing man on the keys, Masterkraft.

Remember, when these two rappers team up, its always a hit and that fact wasn’t short lived as Fada Fada became an instant street anthem.

18. Tekno – Pana


Making hits virtually seems to be Tekno’s greatest attribute right now and the Triple MG act hasn’t short lived the hype of being a hit maker and that is evident after churning hits after hits.

Tekno also made a statement with his record Pana which was produced by Krizbeatz.

Unarguably, Pana might just be the biggest Nigerian hit of 2016.

19. Korede Bello – Do Like That


Korede Bello’s Do Like That did well on the charts this year. Its obvious that the Mavins are always on the hit list.

This is definitely one of the coolest jams out of 2016.

20. Reekado Banks – Problem


Off Reekado Banks debut album “Spotlight”, the record Problem got to the spot and topped charts. Also, the video had a high impact on its massive success, one need not wonder why the song made it to the charts.
