Accused sex offender and R&B singer R. Kelly appeared in federal court in Chicago on Wednesday for another status hearing in one of his sex-crimes cases, which could be ready for trial next spring.
Kelly appeared in court in his prison jumpsuit, standing straight with his hands behind his back. He nodded to a group of his supporters as he left the courtroom.
Prosecutors pushed to set a trial date in late April, but Kelly’s defense lawyers were hesitant given there are four state and federal cases pending against him, none of which has a trial date yet.
“I don’t know if we’re in a position to set a trial date,” lead defense lawyer Steve Greenberg said. “Everybody wants to go first.”
