Although the MTV VMAs broke the internet and trended for days in both the fashion, entertainment, and music industry with everyone talking about it, it turns out that not many people were actually watching the show itself.
According to Hollywood Reporter, the 2018 MTV VMA’s had a record-breaking low rating.
The 2018 VMA’s had the lowest audience in VMA history, pulling in only about 4.87 million viewers and a 2.2 rating among the 18-49 aged demographic across eight Viacom owned channels. 2.25 of those viewers were from people tuning into MTV.
This figure is just shy of the 5.36 million the 2017 VMAs pulled in with a 2.6 rating. In the demographic between 18-34, the rating went down from 2.2 to 1.2.
The 2018 VMA’s had performances from the likes of Nicki Minaj, Post Malone, Travis Scott, amongst others. It was also the first time Cardi came out in public since she gave birth to Kulture. Cardi opened up the show with a monologue and fooled many people, including Offset, into thinking that she would finally reveal her child’s face.
