The 2018 edition of the FIFA World Cup came to a close today with a match for the ages that saw lift the highly coveted trophy.
The French took the lead early in the 18th minute thanks to a Mario Mandzukic own goal, however, the Croatians drew level shortly after Ivan Perisic’s low volley found the back of the net.
France restored their lead thanks to an Antoine Griezmann penalty after the referee made a ruling using the VAR.
The second half opened up with the Croatians taking the game to France and almost drawing level barely after kickoff, but Hugo Lloris denied them twice in less than 3 minutes.
The play was stopped for a bit after three fans ran into the pitch, and play resumed once more with Croatia almost drawing level.
However, Pogba’s left footed strike, after a blissful pass by the Manchester United midfielder, put the game well beyond the reach of Croatia and made the game 3-1, and Kylian Mbappe also got on the scoresheet to give France a rousing 4-1 victory.
Mario Mandzukic redeemed himself with a consolation goal after Hugo Lloris’ blunder to make it 4-2, but it was all for nought as France’s brilliance saw then lift the gold trophy in the end.
Congratulations to France, 2018 World Cup winners.
