2018 is fast ending and because a lot has happened through the year, I think it would be cool to make a few lists. I’ll be starting from this one though, the top viral trends of 2018.
I hope you agree with me…
Wondering where the most viral trend of the year – STEW started from? It first started on twitter with Wizkid making aware his new single which he was about to released then. He captioned it “Friday Stew”, referring to his first 2018 singles Fever and Master Groove.
You know what stew in the real sense means. “A hot and spicy sauce” but that didn’t blow the internet until Wizkid again, tweeted “Fever video – Monday stew” and the video broke the internet with Tiwa Savage in it. Wizkid with just that one move broke the internet by serving us some real Yoruba stew.
So Davido trended earlier this year when he made his relationship with Chioma public, released a song – Assurance on her birthday and bought her a 45million Naira Porsche (ASSURANCE). From then onward, every relationship supposedly needed an assurance to work.
.falling down dance
Lately, all we can think f doing when a song comes up is to let our head fall or even fall down completely. Since the release of the African song – Malwedhe Idibala, the internet hasn’t stopped falling, literally.
Talking about dance steps that came to stay, KUPE cannot be overemphasised, it’s a fun dance that requires you moving from side to side with your arms and legs doing all the necessary work. It even triggered a challenge and every friendship group wanted to put up a video, doing the dance.
. Na dem dey rush
This one never gets old, na dem dey rush us. Abeg who dey rush you?

. Sho mo age mi ni
Baba Oja has just made us “respect hunters” in this country. I’m even guilty of this, I’d be looking at my younger sister, when she jokingly throws a shade at me like “what’s wrong with this one, sho mo age mi ni”
. transmission transmission.
This one is just very funny, somebody cannot give a speech in peace again in Nigeria oh, your speech becomes the next trending song.

Following Flaz’s – this is Nigeria, the trend lasted a period. This is Nigeria was Falz’s version of the song This is American and it spoke about a lot of things we face every day in Nigeria.

. “this table you’re shaking”
This table your shaking ehn…. That’s the phrase you hear when someone decides to say/do something controversial.
Charles Okocha gets the credit for this one when he came out with a video skit demanding his accolades. The apparently means credits, rewards, anything in that category.
. Berger to Ajah
So, this is the story of false rape. Apparently, a girl left Berger to Ajah to pay a visit to Uche but didn’t get the much-anticipated attention from him instead, he concentrated on his laptop. Turns out he wasn’t pleased with her looks after all. Long story cut short, they took their fight to Twitter, entertaining us for as long as it lasted.
. Small girl, big god
One of the most recent trends, it is the new way to describe a supposed “call girl”. Well, no one wants to be called a runs girl, right?
. Animals swallowing money
In February, we heard that 36 million Naira was missing from the JAMB office and a snake had swallowed it. In March, it was another animal, this time 70million Naira vanished into thin air. Well, the ogas at the top said it was a monkey that swallowed that one. Well…

. Sex doll
Sex dolls were the talk of the town in January. It was in the news that a new kind of sex doll was designed that cost over $2,000. Of course, this got Nigerians talking and even bashing women in the process. See how Nigerians reacted:
