R. Kelly Pays Child Support to Avoid Jail Time Before Sex Abuse Trial

R. Kelly has paid the child support he owes ex-wife Drea Kelly, and even went the extra mile by paying two months in advance to avoid going to jail.

According to TMZ, Kelly’s family attorney, Lisa Damico, appeared in court on Tuesday afternoon and paid $41,666 (N15 million) to cover June and July’s child support payments.

As for the $32k (N11.5 million) Robert still owes in interest on back child support, no decision was made in court. However, Johnson says they don’t plan on paying it. His lawyer said that “At no point in the foreseen future do we see paying interest of child support. As of May 14, 2019 Mr. Kelly is current on support payments.”

With child support obligations out of the way (for the next three months, at least,) the singer can now focus on the multiple counts of criminal sexual abuse trial that may see him spending 40 years in jail if found guilty.
