The Super Eagles became the first African Nation to qualify for the 2018 World Cup after seeing off Zambia by a lone goal in Uyo.
The hosts dominated the match from kickoff but failed to register a goal early on when Odion Ighalo missed a glorious chance in front of goal. Though it looked like the Super Eagles’ plan was going accordingly, a resilient Zambian defence frustrated the attack of Nigeria in the final third to send both teams down the tunnel at halftime with a 0-0 score
Substitute Alex Iwobi came on in the 66th minute and scored the all-important goal eight minutes later to ensure that Gernot Rohr’s men qualify for the tournament scheduled to hold in Russia next year.
In the other match played in Group B, Cameroon saw off Algeria 2-0 to maintain second place in a bid to ensure qualification to the African Cup of Nations.
Congrats Super Eagles!!!! You’ve done us proud
