Naira Marley Reportedly Arrested By EFCC: 3 Possible Reasons Why

Naira Marley

News making rounds in the media this morning is that “Issa Goal” crooner Naira Marley may have been picked up by the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Although Vibe NG is yet to confirm this, the good people at Premium Times say they have received candid information of this occurrence.

While we wait for statements from the commission and/or Naira’s team, here are what we believe could be the 3 possible causes of this incident.

Am I A Yahoo Boy?

Naira Marley has a new joint out featuring his homie Zlatan Ibile and it pretty much is a sarcastic song about the prevalent cyber-fraud situation in Nigeria.

“Am I A Yahoo Boy” was birthed on the heels of a trending debate on social media, with the likes of Simi condemning cyber-fraud aka Yahoo Yahoo, particularly because of the hardship it is currently bringing to well-meaning Nigerians all over world.

Naira Marley and his goons immediately coined the “Simi see trouble, am I a Yahoo Boy” phrase, after which they crafted the super controversial song.

Although the song does not outrightly have Naira support fraud, he makes light of the situation with a hint of justification.

Maybe EFCC streamed the music and want him to come in for further explanations?

The Naira Marley – Ruggedman face off

Ruggedman has been quite an activist for some time, using his legendary status for epic stuff like seeking justice for police brutality victims. In a show with Hip TV, he spoke up about Yahoo Yahoo, with some reference to Naira Marley and his song.

This in turn led Naira to record a video where he directly responded to Ruggedman but he did not just make it about the current situation; he opened up some past wounds involving the 9ice- Ruggedman-Toni Payne triangle.

Maybe Naira pissed Rugged with this behaviour and it made the latter wield his power ties with the authorities?

Arrest Or Birthday Stunt?

According to Cardi B and her husband Offset, there is nothing people won’t do for clout (especially Nigerian musicians and their overtime-working PR guys).

May 10th happens to be Naira Marley’s birthday. Wouldn’t you say it is a bit too coincidental for the lad to be arrested on his birthday?

Maybe one these reasons fuel this alleged arrest, maybe not, but here’s hoping that Naira is doing fine as he is still very innocent until thoroughly proven guilty.
