When you ask the random Nigerian to list female Yoruba rappers, the only name that might pop up in their mouths might be Mz Kiss. What if I told you that there are two other underground rappers who are as hot (or maybe even hotter) as Mz Kiss when it comes to rap, their names are Kidda and Candy Bleakz.
So, Who’s Kidda?
Who’s Candy Bleakz?
From the streets of Bariga in Lagos, Obafemi Temitope Mercy AKA Kidda who was born in Ogun state has shown that she’s one to reckon with when it comes to the rap business. An unapologetic hardcore Yoruba rapper who would leave you tapping your feet and nodding your head along to her music, she’s a superstar in the making who we feel would make 2019 her bitch if she puts in work and pays publicity and the promotion of her song a little more attention as her tracks are already fire and deserve more accolades than they are getting. With an EP to her name titled ‘The Next Big Thing’, her name should be the lips on everyone’s mouth.
While Candy Bleakz is also a hardcore Yoruba rapper, most people know her from her funny and farce rap skits that she posts on Youtube and Instagram. We could call her the female version of Falz as she’s known to infuse comedy into her style of rap but that doesn’t mean she can’t drop conscious rap whenever she wants to. With her new track ‘Owo Osu’ which she just dropped with Zlatan and Naira Marley, her fans seem to be eating everything she dishes across their way music wise.
We’re going to be keeping a keen eye on these young women as we know they are going to be the next indigenous Cardi B of Nigeria and work their way up into being one of the biggest names in Africa (even though Candy Bleakz would rather be like Young MA).
